NEVID Diploma The first professional specialized diploma in the field of neuro endovascular intervention in the Arab Republic of Egypt
Under the patronage of His Excellency Professor Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, the General Organization for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes announced, on August 10, 2025, the launch of the Professional Diploma in Neuro Endovascular Intervention, organized by the Training Center of the General Secretariat of the Organization, which had previously been accredited by the Egyptian Health Council. The program aims to develop specialized medical competencies in the field of treating brain and nervous system diseases and neurovascular catheterization.
Professor Dr. Mohamed Mostafa Abdel Ghaffar, President of the General Organization for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes, stated that Emergency Medicine is the main driving force of any medical institution, and that the development of this specialty is a top priority within the Organization’s strategic objectives. This comes in line with the directives of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population to give top priority to Emergency Medicine, due to the increasing number of cases received by emergency departments and reception units at the Organization’s hospitals and institutes. Since the beginning of 2025, approximately 1.7 million patients have been received. In order to serve these patients professionally and efficiently, there is a need for continuous medical education and training of medical teams. This training must be part of an integrated system that provides the trainee with the best and most up-to-date training programs, in addition to granting an accredited certificate qualifying them to work in this field.
He emphasized that the Organization attaches great importance to training programs in the fields of neurovascular catheterization and stroke management, foremost among them this diploma, whose activities commence today. He pointed out that the Organization is keen to register its stroke treatment units with the World Stroke Organization, as its hospitals recently received three awards from this organization for excellence during the second quarter of 2025. This reflects the existence of qualified medical cadres and advanced facilities capable of implementing this training program efficiently and confidently.
He added that during the past period, the Organization organized more than 4,000 scientific and research events, including workshops, seminars, conferences, training courses, scientific days, and discussion panels, attended by about 65,000 trainees and participants interested in training and research. This figure reflects the Organization’s great commitment to training and applied scientific research, which has been the main objective behind the establishment of the General Organization for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes fifty years ago.
He concluded his speech by expressing gratitude to Dr. Mohamed Lotfy, President of the Egyptian Health Council, and Dr. Osama Abdel Hay, President of the Egyptian Medical Syndicate, for their continuous support and unlimited cooperation with the Organization in accrediting professional specialized diplomas and presenting them in a manner worthy of the Egyptian physician. This, in turn, leads to providing distinguished medical services to patients — the ultimate goal that we all strive to achieve.
For his part, Professor Dr. Mohamed Mostafa Lotfy, CEO of the Egyptian Health Council, praised the efforts of the General Organization for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes to enhance the level of healthcare services provided to patients through training programs and specialized professional diplomas. He noted that the Organization is keen to have these programs accredited by all relevant authorities, foremost among them the Egyptian Health Council, which grants them high academic and professional value and strengthens the professional standing of their graduates, aligning perfectly with the research and training mission of the Organization.
In his speech, Professor Dr. Osama Abdel Hay, President of the Egyptian Medical Syndicate, thanked the Organization for its great efforts in the fields of training and continuous medical education, coinciding with the implementation of the Medical Liability Law. He affirmed that the Organization is committed to accrediting the specialized professional diplomas it organizes through its General Secretariat Training Center, covering various specialties, particularly the highly specialized ones. He highlighted that what distinguishes this diploma is its inclusion of three integrated specialties — Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Interventional Radiology — which provides fully trained, multidisciplinary medical teams at the highest professional levels.
Professor Dr. Ahmed El-Basiony, Professor of Neurology and Program Director, noted that the Professional Diploma in Neuro Endovascular Intervention represents a qualitative addition to the specialized training programs in Egypt and reflects the Organization’s strong commitment to advanced educational programs. It is the first of its kind in the region in the field of neurovascular intervention. The program extends over two years and represents a model of institutional cooperation between the General Organization for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes, the Egyptian Health Council, and the Egyptian Medical Syndicate.
He emphasized the importance of this diploma, as there is a significant need for this rare specialty and a necessity to train 150 physicians in all neuro endovascular procedures to handle approximately 50,000 to 60,000 cases annually. He added that each governorate must have a specialized center for dealing with stroke cases through emergency neuro endovascular interventions. This requires advanced medical equipment and highly trained human resources. The diploma aims to provide participants with the latest knowledge and skills in the field of neuro endovascular interventions, which play a vital role in treating complex conditions such as strokes, aneurysms, and other cerebrovascular diseases. The academic board of the diploma includes a distinguished group of neurology professors from various medical institutions, led by the General Organization for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes.
The celebration, held at the conference hall of the Training Center at El-Mataria Teaching Hospital, was attended by:
- Dr. Wael El-Darandaly, Board Member of the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation,
- Dr. Nagham El-Amir, Deputy President of the Organization for Scientific and Applied Research,
