The General Authority for Hospitals and Educational Institutes announced the launch of the first professional diploma specializing in interventional cerebral catheterization, under the patronage of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, and organized by the Authority’s General Secretariat Training Center. The diploma has been accredited by the Egyptian Health Council and the Medical Syndicate, with the aim of developing medical competencies in the treatment of brain and nerve diseases using cerebral catheterization.

Dr. Mohamed Mostafa Abdel Ghaffar, President of the Authority, said that emergency medicine is the main driver of any medical facility, and that developing this specialty is a top priority for the Authority, in accordance with the directives of the Minister of Health. He pointed out that since the beginning of 2025, the Authority’s hospitals and institutes have received about 1.7 million patients in their reception and emergency departments, which requires training medical staff within an integrated system that provides the latest training programs and accredited certificates.

He explained that the Authority pays special attention to cerebral catheterization and stroke treatment programs, foremost among which is this diploma, emphasizing its keenness to register stroke treatment units with the World Stroke Organization, which awarded the Authority’s hospitals three awards during the second quarter of this year in recognition of their excellence.

He added that the Authority has organized more than 4,000 scientific and research events during the past period, in which 65,000 trainees participated, reflecting its commitment to training and scientific research since its establishment 50 years ago.

The ceremony featured words of support from Dr. Mohamed Latif, President of the Egyptian Health Council, and Dr. Osama Abdel Hay, President of the Egyptian Medical Syndicate, who praised the Authority’s efforts in providing accredited training programs of high scientific value, especially the diploma that combines three integrated specialties: neurology, neurosurgery, and interventional radiology.

For his part, Dr. Ahmed Al-Basyouni, Professor of Neurology and Director of the program, explained that this diploma is the first of its kind in the region and lasts for two years. It aims to qualify 150 doctors to deal with 50 to 60 thousand cases of cerebral catheterization annually, through the establishment of specialized centers in each governorate and providing them with the latest equipment and trained personnel.

The event was attended by a number of the Authority’s leaders and members of the diploma’s scientific council, and the ceremony was held in the conference hall of Al-Matariya Teaching Hospital.
